Scott Ransom
, DO, MBA, MPH, became the fifth president of the University of North Texas Health Science Center in August 2006.

Dr. Ransom earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the former University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, currently Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He earned a master of business administration degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and a master of public health degree from Harvard University.

Dr. Ransom is a Fellow in many professional organizations, including the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American College of Surgeons, American College of Physician Executives, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Board of Medical Management, and the Certifying Commission in Medical Management.

Prior to joining the health science center, Dr. Ransom served at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor as the executive director of the Program for Healthcare Improvement and Leadership Development, as a professor with tenure in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the medical school, and in the Department of Health Management and Policy in the School of Public Health.. He also served as the director of Women’s Health and Gynecology at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center.

Since 2003, Dr. Ransom has led research focused on improving healthcare delivery, women’s health, leadership development and performance improvement. His research efforts have garnered significant grant funding from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Veterans Administration, Blue Cross Blue Shield and private foundations.

Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Dr. Ransom was Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer at the Detroit Medical Center, a seven-hospital health care system. Prior to that, Dr. Ransom was Medical Director and Ob/Gyn Regional Division Head for the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit. During his nine years in Detroit, Dr. Ransom was also a member of the Ob/Gyn faculty at Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Dr. Ransom has published more than 100 articles, chapters, abstracts and seven books on topics related to clinical improvement, quality and leadership.
