The School of Public Health (SPH), founded in 1999 as a result of grassroots efforts of community leaders and public health officials, is now one of the only 41 accredited schools of its kind in the United States. SPH has grown rapidly in student enrollment and research funding since its initial accreditation with the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) in June 2002, while maintaining strong and vital links with public health professionals in the community. In 2007, SPH was re-accredited for the maximum term of seven years.
In addition to the master of public health (MPH) and doctor of public health (DrPH) degrees, SPH now offers the master of health administration (MHA) degree. SPH offers dual degree programs with the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, the University of North Texas Anthropology Department and the University of Texas at Arlington School of Nursing. In 2008, the school launched its first 3-week Summer Institute Program and is scheduled to admit students to the PhD in public health sciences program in fall 2010.
